EPISODE SUMMARY:
Not many artists can be considered both a product of the era in which they were working and a creative force that shaped the culture of that time. But so-called "no wave" indie rock band Sonic Youth absolutely falls into that category. Their iconic double album Daydream Nation perfectly reflected the various dissonant realities that existed in 1980s America, and also fueled the rise of the hugely important artists like Nirvana and Pavement who were listening to Sonic Youth in their formative years. And only the band's bassist and singer Kim Gordon can really explain how they created such an influential sound.
