EPISODE SUMMARY:
It may be cliche, but the old adage of "never judging a book by its cover" remains as true today as it was when the first person uttered that little bit of wisdom. Also, most cliches come from a place of truth, and this particular expression perfectly encapsulates De La Soul, a group that formed at the forefront of the sub genre known as backpack rap. Once referred to as "the Sgt. Pepper of hip-hop," their 1989 debut album 3 Feet High and Rising features playful sketches, sonic experimentation, and an overwhelming positivity that flew in the faces of their contemporaries. Comedian and actor Brian Posehn, of HBO's Mr. Show and Comedy Central's The Sarah Silverman Program, should also never be judged by his appearance. At first look, Brian is a metal head through and through. But once you get to know him, you'll see how much of a fan of rap, and De La Soul in particular, he really is.
