EPISODE SUMMARY:
In any great list of musicians or albums, there’s bound to be a decent amount of similarities among artists, at least in terms of genre or execution. However, it may be safe to say the singer-songwriter Tom Waits is peerless in his eclecticism, eccentricities and even endurance. Having created so many unique albums over such a long career, ranging from folk to jazz to avant garde in his songcraft, it’s hard to say which record is most truly indicative of Tom’s contribution to the world of music. But 1985’s Rain Dogs may be as good an example as any of what makes his work so strangely powerful and darkly beautiful. It certainly seems that way to Dawes singer and guitar player Taylor Goldsmith, who marks a heavy Waitsian influence on his own music, including the band’s latest album Good Luck With Whatever.
