EPISODE SUMMARY:
Some people are afraid of their past. They cringe and deny whatever defunct fad or weird subculture they were once a part of for fear of present judgement of earlier days. But that couldn't be further from the truth for comedian Margaret Cho, who not only admits but openly revels in the glory of her youth spent ruffled-collar deep in the dark embrace of goth culture and melodramatic post-punk of bands like The Cure. Their rise from new wave imitators to a wholly unique exploration of alternative masculinity and modern romance, as captured in their 1980 compilation album Boys Don't Cry, mirrors Margaret's evolution from just another dirty comic to a household name with a fully realized voice, a voice that led her to appear in numerous films and TV shows, release nine comedy albums and even become the first Asian American to create and star in their own network sitcom.
