EPISODE SUMMARY:
Just as the overwhelming euphoria of a newly blossoming romance can provide fertile ground for artistic expression, creativity energy can also come from the all-encompassing anger and sadness of a love gone bad. And few relationships ever went south with as much tumultuous intensity as American singer-songwriter Marvin Gaye's marriage to his first wife. Facing a major loss in divorce court that forced him to give her half of his earnings from his next album, Gaye took all the pain and suffering the two had caused each other and used it to forge a scathing rebuke in the form of 1978 cult classic soul release Here, My Dear. Comedian Roy Wood Jr. is no stranger to troubled matters of the heart, though, and analyzes this album with the same dry wit and brutal honesty that led him to become a correspondent for Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and the host of This Is Not Happening.
