EPISODE SUMMARY:

To many people, a huge part of punk might seem to be rejecting society's labels and notions of what is and isn't acceptable. But in that same vein, that is not the only facet of punk that is important. The punk lifestyle and mindset can mean many different things to different people, and the same goes for the music. Take the British band Buzzcocks, for example. While the music that makes up their 1979 compilation Singles Going Steady is fast and hard, it's also melodic and heartbreaking. Take also as an example, comedian and Buzzcocks superfan Shapel Lacey. Growing up as a young black man in Mesa, Arizona who was interested in both punk and cheerleading, he strove to go against what other people told him to be and do. And that drive is what has led him to appear on JFL “New Faces,” Comedy Central’s Clusterfest.
