EPISODE SUMMARY:
Hip-hop may be one the youngest genres of music in existence, but in its relatively brief time in our cultural consciousness it has gone through numerous transformations. The sound of the Bronx in the 80s is lightyears from what it has become today. And one of the major watershed moments for this music was the formation of Atlanta duo OutKast. Their 2000 album Stankonia marks the height of the combined eclectic energies of rappers Big Boi and Andre 3000 before they took off in different creative directions. It also meant everything to the young boy growing up in the South who would become the incredible comedian and actor known as Jay Pharoah, long time Saturday Night Live cast member and the star of Netflix film Resort to Love.
