EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dave Pirner has seen it all. In his nearly 40 years as the frontman for the band Soul Asylum, Dave has traveled the world, played with some of the greatest musicians of his era, and even called out Bill Cinton while visiting the White House for not maintaining the lawn. But in his words, he has still yet to encounter any band or group of artists more impressive or influential than San Pedro-born post-punkers Minutemen. Their groundbreaking double album from 1984 Double Nickels on the Dime, made up of 45 eclectic tracks, flew in the face of the trappings and expectations of the scene, and drove home the idea that the true nature of punk lies in doing your own thing, different from everyone else. And despite the band's short career, that message still lingers in the ears of some of the biggest bands today, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco and At The Drive-In.
