EPISODE SUMMARY:

"Ya had to be there" is often the dismissive response witnesses to important, iconic or truly unbelievable cultural moments offer when asked to recount what they did, heard or saw. Luckily some of this rare category of shared memories is captured in a way that makes the audience feel like they were there, absorbed in the glory of a truly one-of-a-kind moment, making them even more timeless. Such is the case with power pop masters Cheap Trick's 1978 live album Cheap Trick at Budakon, which so perfectly encapsulated the intensity of thousands of screaming Japanese fans at the feet of their rock n' roll idols, that it far surpassed their studio albums in both success and acclaim. Fortunately, as well, there are still people alive who lived those moments, or at least shared in the roller coaster of musical superstardom, who can speak to what it was like to see these moments from the other side. Thankfully, we still have titans of the stage like Matt Sorum, drummer for some of the biggest bands in history -- including Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver and The Cult, to walk us through what it was like to live like a rock god.
