EPISODE SUMMARY:

There's a strong case to be made for the notion that artists should be continuously changing and never fall back on safe ground. But after six albums, is it even really possible for a band to completely shift gears and head into completely unexplored territory? Those who doubt that possibility need only listen to British new-wave masters Depeche Mode's 1990 album Violator. It completely reversed Comedy Bang Bang and Between Two Ferns creator Scott Aukerman's opinion of them, who had previously written them off as just another synth-pop band. Now they are one of his favorite artists and Violator is one of his favorite albums of all time.
